I am not sure how to use the vcam best

on 8/9/2013, 4:12 pm
I heard you can make the whole vision blurry using the vcam but I haven't figured out how to do that. I am also having trouble making the vcam not seem jumpy and more streamlined with its motion, any suggestions?

do you press the shift when you change the size of the vcam?

when you use the v-cam, make sure it is a movieclip. it is important that it is.

Then, click on the v-cam, go to filters and add blur. It may just blur the v-cam, but in the actual flash, it blurs everything. oh and for the second situation, it's best to use tweens instead of manually dragging it using keyframes. But make sure that the main action of the flash movie is the at the center of the v-cam so you can focus on them

no, don't use filters, it will lag too much. also it doesn't work with some V-CAMs. so don't. instead, use images. if you want what's blurred to be animated then that gets tricky, but it's still better to use still images rather than flash's filters.

@BuchonixD
Don't worry, I maintain the aspect ratio.

@Leo
You are right about it not working on all vcams, mine certainly doesn't. I am unaware of how I should blur all of the image then because the background has an animation loop.

@supersmashbro
reference to above

*sigh* I feel like I unknowingly put myself in situations that other animators are wise to avoid.

I find that when I watch animations of people that I admire, I didn't realize that it is just as choppy as mine, in fact, with the effort I have gone through to reduce choppiness, its almost to smooth for my liking. I this is going to be one of those things that experience is going to have to catch up.

Blurring the vcam IS how you do it though. Remember if you are rendering this to a video file, you don't have to worry about lag. Optimize it if it's only going to be a flash animation.

@Mr Lange
The problem is that when I do blur the vcam, its as if no affect takes place and that I might as well not have done it. Thats what I relate to specifically when he said it doesn't work with all vcams.

Should work if you're using Vcam AS2 in Flash 8 or Vcam AS3 in Flash CS3. Otherwise, not sure why it's not working.

If I could get a link to an AS2 cam that is confirmed to blur correctly, then I can use it and determine if lag would be the problem.

Look in the tutorials section. I'm pretty sure there's a post on how to build your own AS2 V-Cam right there. If not, just look it up on google.

I'm not saying I hate you, but if you were set ablaze and I had a bucket of water, I'd probably drink it.
