Finn the Human

This is my very first attempt at making a sprite.  Please be gentle.....

I want to make a sprite of Finn in an idle stance animation in a fighting game I want to develop.

Here is the original drawing

Here is the rough draft sprite



Please let me know what I should work on to make this look better before I color it.  Thanks for taking the time!

either i'm missing the entire concept or wouldn't it just be easier to draw every stand and leave it at that?

Yeah you know, we may be a spriting forum, but if you want to show off some drawn stuff feel free to show it off.

We're not saying you have to, just saying you don't have to do all the extra work. But if you do, I think it would be awesome.

I am starting with his idle stance gif, then forward walking, backwards walking, back dash, forward run, neutral jump, and then forward jump.  this animation is going to bod up and down until he moves.

I find this interesting that your gonna make a game with Adventure Time characters...Marshall Lee, Billy, Cake, Fionna will they make an appearance?

Right now the original roster is Finn, Jake, Ice King, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, Billy, Magic Man, and The Litch.  If there is any story mode, then I will make Fight King the boss and maybe a playable character.  I have no idea if I will be able to animate 8 characters though.  Once I have a full working Finn character, then i will start on the others.

My first try at animation...  It looks horrible!!!! I will clean it up later. I thought what I was doing should be in this section.

its actually not that bad except for the backpack, it morphs with his body and stuff. Just speed it up the FPS is waaaay too low

I made is a little bit faster.  It was originally 18 frames, now it is 10.  I didnt think about making him blink yet, but I will make sure all of the characters blink.

I will work on that tonight after I put my daughter to bed.  Should I continue the pixelated route, or should I make vector sprites?

holy shit that actually looks really good. my only complaint is that he should be standing on his toes, not his heels. You have it so that he bounces on his heels when he stands and it looks kinda ridiculous/unrealistic, people bounce on their toes in fighting stances. So keep the edge of his toes still and have his heels bounce.

I will go back and fix the feet and and clean up the joints. I cut the gif down from rough draft 12 frames to 8.

I think I fixed the foot issue.  It looks a little smoother now.  I am going to start on the forwards and backwards walking animations this week.
