25 fps is fine, looks good and is easy to work with.
30 fps looks better and is a bit more challenging.
40-60 can look great but would be very difficult to work with. For it to not be pointless you would have to put the effort into the kind of temporal subtlety and complex movement that such a high framerate would demand. The only reason video games are often that high is so collision detection and certain programs are more accurate.
In most cases nothing higher than 30 is ever needed. The only reason to animate higher would be for the challenge, experimentation or curiosity.
