Masking Problem...

on 4/7/2012, 3:56 am
This has been happening in pretty much all of my projects now -__-
Basically when I use masking on anything it always glitches up...
You can see it on the two close-ups of Sonic on his eyes here:

http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/c754d7888754e7a1b914c1729effe01c

I removed the background at the part it happens at so it doesn't lag

Someone help please :S

EDIT: Nevermind, I fixed it by switching the mask from a movieclip to a graphic type

... why use masking??? I just make square and skew it on eyes. My hint is that if it ain't working, don't use it, instead make it manually if nothing else is working.

@SXR123

Doing college work and stuff D:
I've got two weeks off so I can do some animating for a bit Very Happy

@Blackleafe
I don't think I can do the eyelid stuff on Sonic without masking ;_;
And the square skewing thing would work if I was animating the pupils but i'm trying to do the whole eyelid D:

It's pretty weird cause I just did another eye mask thing and it worked completely fine o_O

Oh yeah also, does the first half of the fight (with the background) lag for anyone? Or is it just my laptop -__-

I got some lag on the part with the bg.
Did you apply any filters to it?

Yeah same here, got some lag with the bg. Honestly though, when you usually move the bg to make the animation look better (parallax i assume) if the bg is big or has some filters applied to it, you can almost always expect lagg. And Blackleafe's right, you could just tween it in the shape of the eye, it would make things much simpler. If you don't want to do that, then I suggest deleting that part, and redoing it over, cuz I had the same problem a while back, so I just redid everything and it worked. Hope this helps, nice animation by the way Very Happy

I did have filters on the bg before, but the lag was too much so I just got rid of them

I'm not completely sure how to go about tweening it in the shape of the eye cause I don't really understand :S

And thanks :)

you could have just put the sprite in fireworks/paint/other and edit it the simple way with pencil tool
