Characters and Stages

on 4/23/2011, 10:40 am
Ready to get started back with flash for the summer and i was wondering what should I do about my character being obviously bigger looking than the stage. I was thinking of making them smaller and using the vcam for zooming in.

IF they're bigger than the stage and the background, resize it.

Thanks. Also what about backgrounds? there was something that was supposed to be done instead of tracing them because it freezes i think.
How's it been going though lol, long time no see. Razz

MAN you are NEVER ON.

Yeah. Tracing them makes your animations lag, and the file size is bigger when you do that, so you can break it apart or leave it as it is.

I would be on more I just took a break and lost my bookmarks in the process. xD
Thanks again.
Also what about mismatched characters, in this case kyo and akuma are way larger than mario lol. Should i make kyo and akuma smaller, or mario larger?

Depends on the background size, really. Just make everything look as it would in real life, proportionate wise.

Since Mario is a pretty short guy, you should so make Akuma pretty short as well, but still taller than Mario, and making it still seem like Akuma's physique.

You could try using that Mario made by ShinRyoga (mugen). I think it could fit more.

Also, THAT BG IS TRACED :U

Well there's something weird at the top of the image it isn't like perfectly on the image kinda on the side, Idk if that's in the Flash but it looks weird.

It's the same background on a different layer, and slightly larger.I was testing some effects and stuff lol. Also how would i be able to make the characters move in and out of the background. I think this moght be a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke39hEvl6HA&feature=player_detailpage#t=1804s

Re: Characters and Stages

I think what you mean is to have a character go behind a box or something, you would just make that object in a layer above the character that way they could 'hide' behind the box which in reality in the timeline the character is just underneath the layer of the object which is covering the character.

Re: Characters and Stages

I think it's like when two characters are fighting in the background and their sprite is smaller and then they get very close to screen and fight in the foreground. I saw that with mario and that red axem ranger.

Would it be possible to have a fight on this the image I posted earlier? I think I would probably have to resize the sprites and use the vcam Serious

depends on what you want them to do. do you want them to go up, run toward the light, or just like look like they're coming toward you and then moving away?

edit: reread your post. it's possible. just resize them, move the sprites around, and tween it.
