Maya, with sprites 3D animation.

on 2/27/2014, 10:54 am
SO I saw quite a few bits and bobs with blender, Someone please awnser me why there is no actual 3D modelling in these scenes.

I know that sounds odd, but I made this video just to prove partly that it was possible, and that it was possible to do in Maya.

I've seen a person do this before
Oh Mali has done this before iirc
Cool stuff though, it should be done more imo

I've seen it done a few times too, it's alright but I really love seeing how people use 2D in a 3D type of way more, guess it's just more preferred personally though

I like this how you can make something 2D and put it in a 3D environment.and you did it without making it look like paper thats pretty damn good

It's perfectly possible. It's just easier working with flat planes, especially when you're starting out. Also, compositing becomes a nightmare once you get to the After Effects step and you render out sequences for objects individually, because no overlapping is regarded when the passes are split, so the objects are not occluded. It's possible to do so before the render, but Blender fails to do this correctly with alpha mapped textures, so it doesn't work with the sprites. There is a way, I just haven't bothered with it.
Thor vs Raiden has a 3d environment.

Shadow, and getting any sort of proper good looking render will most likely be the biggest problem.
I just wanted to see if this sorta thing was possible, and to see what anyone thought on the matter.

I might make something at somepoint which reflects this stuff, but for now I need to focus on uni work, which is a tonne more lots of 3D.
